From Time Immemorial...
Music about time
"Where are we when we were,
Where will we be when we no longer are?"
From Time Immermorial... is an open-ended work, set in an imaginary musical setting. It is not an ode to the past nor directed toward the idyllic. It moves among the shadows of our ancestors who are related to us in every aspect – in joy and sadness, in self-confidence and despair. They are also at the beginning of our spiritual anguish of today.
About the project
Stage performance
The key idea of the performance is the first sentence of the leading text "Where are we, when we were, where we will be, when we are no more?" and that kind of meditation submerges the entire performance. In the foreground, is the magic and the symbolic, the dichotomy between vitalism and aesthetic restraint, between the trivial and artistically emphasized, between the spiritual and the naturalistic.
As to its form, From Time Immemorial is an open-ended work, set in an imaginary musical setting. It is not an ode to the past nor directed toward the idyllic. It moves among the shadows of our ancestors who are related to us in every aspect – in joy and sadness, in self-confidence and despair.
In 2008 Karmina Šilec won an international award for this performance at the world competition for the creators of new opera and music theatre by the Music Theatre Now/ International Theatre Institute in category Music beyond opera.
